Government of Nunavut:Taigusiliuqtiit

The intense desire of many Inuit to ensure the survival of their language sustained them through the decades-long struggle to create Nunavut. Since that historic achievement in 1999, new institutions are being established to tackle the issues impacting the Inuit way of life.  With regard to language, the Government of Nunavut is preparing to create an Inuit Language Authority, or Taiguusiliuqtiit, as part of new language legislation that was enacted by Nunavut’s Legislative Assembly in 2008.

The Pirurvik Centre was contracted to provide consulting services to support the establishment of this new organization. This included a wide range of work that has led to the creation of Taiguusiliuqtiit.
