Empowerment is an important component of our programs that involve Inuit students. We focus not only developing language skills but also on instilling confidence and a stronger connection to Inuit culture.
Our approach is built on the success of Pirurvik’s Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Leadership and Management Seminar through which participants learned from such esteemed Elders as Mariano Aupilardjuk and Atoat Akittiq.
Our programming includes topics such as Inuit approaches to leadership, family relationships, Inuktitut literacy, and Inuit qaujimajatuqangit. For our Sanngattigiarvik IFL programs, an Inuktitut-speaking facilitator works alongside Elders who have a deep understanding of a particular aspect of Inuit culture. Because this normally involves travel between communities, Pirurvik has adopted an intensive full-time model for its Inuktitut First Language enhancement courses to minimize costs.
